My dad was head strong, & determind to keep his independance right until his death. He refused help from any one other than immediate family & refused accomadation that would be better for him because he would not of been able to keep his dog who he dearly loved. My dad was one of the very few who also suffered from dementia which made it more difficult to communicate with others but he never lost his sense of humour with his grandchildren.
